Use our gluten-free hot water crust pastry mix to make belting pork pies, traditional Scotch pies and a whole host of other delicious cold-eating and picnic pies.

We formulated our hot water crust pastry mix to a dairy free recipe. It requires a combination of lard and baking block.

You can use butter if you prefer the richer taste it imparts. If you would like to make the pastry suitable for vegetarians, simply substitute the lard for additional baking block or butter.

One pack of our hot water crust pastry mix made up with the instructions will yield a pastry ball weighing approximately 850g.

Use our gluten-free hot water crust pastry mix to Bake Yourself Happy at Home®. Use it to make truly scrumptious gluten-free pork pies and other cold-eating pies as well as traditional Scotch pies.

But don’t let us limit your imagination on its use!

It takes just minutes to make a batch of gluten-free hot water crust pastry using our mix – you simply add fat, egg and water (boiled with the fat).  Once it is rested and ready to use, you can get on with making a feast of delicious pies. You will be fighting off the wandering hands of friends and family members as you wait for your pies to cool!

We chose to develop our hot water crust pastry mix to a dairy free recipe. It requires a combination of lard and baking block to make it. If you prefer a more buttery taste, you can substitute the baking block for butter. If you are a vegetarian, you can swap the lard for more baking block or butter.

We always recommend rolling your pastry between two sheets of clingfilm so that the structure of the pastry is not altered by the addition of flour for dusting.

Following the on-pack instructions, this mix will yield a ball of pastry weighing approximately 850g.

Our gluten-free hot water crust pastry mix contains NONE of the top 14 allergens.

It does, however, require the addition of EGG.

The mix will not work as intended if you make any substitutions. Please follow the instructions provided.

The Little Bakery of Happiness is a small [but perfectly formed] specialist gluten-free craft bakery. We produce handmade sweet and savoury treats from our bakery at Elkington Lodge in Welford, Northamptonshire.

Everything we bake is gluten-free and we do offer some dairy-free and vegan goodies, but please note that while our bakery is a controlled gluten-free environment and we do have strict cross-contamination controls in place when baking food that is dairy free and/or vegan, we do use milk, eggs and meat products on a daily basis.

We use Royal Mail to send out happiness. You can choose between a Tracked24 and a Tracked48 service for most products.

Cakes by post are all sent out on a Tracked24 service and postage is charged on each box sent.

All other happiness is sent in one parcel with the all-up weight determining the cost of postage.
